Speaking on Red Bull’s Talking Bull podcast, Lawson expressed his disbelief and joy at the announcement:
Having been a part of the Red Bull Junior Programme since 2019, Lawson’s promotion to Oracle Red Bull Racing is the culmination of years of hard work and determination. His stints as a reserve driver and substitute racer in 2023 and 2024 showcased his adaptability and raw talent, earning him his chance to race alongside Verstappen in 2025.
The news was delivered personally by Team Principal Christian Horner, who greeted Lawson with the iconic words: “Welcome to Red Bull Racing.”

Lawson’s career has been a story of grit and perseverance. From his debut with Scuderia AlphaTauri at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, where he replaced the injured Daniel Ricciardo, to scoring his first championship points in just his second outing in Singapore, the young Kiwi has consistently impressed.
In 2024, Lawson stepped in for the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls team, delivering a points-scoring finish at the United States Grand Prix and proving his mettle against seasoned competition. Reflecting on his journey, Lawson credited his preparation and the opportunities he’s had:
“To be announced as an Oracle Red Bull Racing driver is a lifelong dream for me, this is something I’ve wanted and worked towards since I was eight years old. It’s been an incredible journey so far.”

As he prepares to join Verstappen in the Oracle Red Bull Racing garage, Lawson is clear about his objectives. While his ultimate dream remains winning a world championship, he understands the immediate task at hand: contributing to the team’s success and learning from the best.
“Obviously, as Formula 1 drivers, we all share the same goal: winning a world championship. That is my goal and always has been. But I know that coming into Oracle Red Bull Racing, the focus is on achieving the Constructors’ Championship.”
Lawson is also looking forward to the opportunity to learn from Verstappen, whom he has admired for his mastery and support.
“Max has always been kind and supportive, even when I was in Super Formula. He’s someone who loves motorsport and watches it all. To have him as a teammate is incredible. There’s nobody better to learn from.”
